Gift Idea #1: Journals - Inspire the writer within your Bookish friend!
Rather writing about their own personal lives, collecting witticisms, or starting the inklings of their own novel, nearly all book people can enjoy a good blank journal. A good gift journal must have:
- A Beautiful Hardback Cover, this allows the journal be laid flat when opened, become a great display piece, and better protection from damage to the book.
- Nice Quality Paper, a journal made out of good quality paper can handle a variety of inks than those made out of the thinnest (cheapest) materials. Judging the quality of paper isn't hard. Just a simple feel test should do. As cheap paper feels cheap but sturdier paper has a substantial feel to it.
- High Quality Binding, a strong bind ensures that the journals pages will stay permanently in tact. A strong case binding is the best for hardcover books. This is when pages are glued together in a "textblock," then the textblock is glued to cover of the book. Hardback journals costing $20 and up tend to have this high quality binding.
The last issue is deciding on what size to get the journal in. This can vary due to personal preferences. However in my humble opinion, I've found that women tend to like journals that are big enough to write in but small enough to carry with. As they often like to journal in bed, on the beach, or whenever the mood hits. So look for hardback journals that are 4" x 6" - 5" x 8" (about the size of a paper back fiction novel) to gift them. See the examples below for great journals to get your favorite bookish female.

If you are a craft beginner, I do not recommend attempting this. Bookbinding at home requires a lot of patience, time, and a laundry list of materials. However if you're a crafty type person, who loves a challenge, follow these tutorials to craft a hardback journal for your book loving sweetie.
Gift Idea #2: Non-Book Bookish Gifts - Bookish Gifts that aren't books
Perfect non-book gifts for book lovers are those that either help aid them in the reading process (bookmarkers or highlighters) or show off their bookish pursuits ( book theme clothing, wall art, jewelry, and etc). The list below is may take on great non-book gifts for book lovers.

Gift Idea #3: Romantic Books - Available in Hardback and/or Audio Format
When gifting books, its best to buy the hardback or audio CD version. Hardback books last longer and the ones with beautiful covers make great display pieces. While audio CDs make a great companion for long trips or nightmare traffic jams. These items run about $20 and up in-stores but you can generally find them on Amazon far cheaper. If your bookish lover has a well-worn paperback of her favorite tale, try gifting her the hardback or audio version of that book. If you are dying to buy her something new, the suggestions below are picks for romantic books currently available in hardback or audio.
